What do I need?

I may be aquiring an 85 300TD soon and I have already thought of a few things I want to do. I only have a few requirements: 1) 180-200 HP 2)Lots of Black Smoke (Theres a lot of diesel trucks around here) 3) 10 second 0-60 times. I would like to do the above for the least amount of money possible and I have my own shop + tools for most anything I would need to do for the car. I also need to learn as much as possible about Benz's and Diesels in general as I have little experience in both. Thanks in advance.

what you need..........

............is to transplant a 350 Chevy V-8 into that W123............'cause that is the only way you are going to see 10 second 0-60 times.

And, btw, if you do it, we won't be speaking with you again.

With your list of requirements, the above sentence was not necessary.
Get different requirements, or get a different car.
We'll await your next post about 18" rims.......(we old guys are quite sarcastic this late)

speed

only two things that i would consider doing.
1. some of the diesels have an adjustable boost regulator. this can be turned up or down a little.
2. for faster acceleration you could always swap in a lower gear into the rear end. the 85 has i think a 2.88 gear. the earlier 300dts have a 3.08, notmuch help, but the 280 gas engined cars have a 3.45 i think and the 300d non turbos have i think a 3.54, the 240s have a 3.69.

of course each gear ratio that you change will have an exact inverse ratio on your fuel consumption. ie if you increase acceleration by 10% you will increase fuel consumption by the same amount.

my advice is to get your car running at its peak and leave it alone. there not that slow in actual highway use. their 0 to 60 times suffer a lot from the initial off the line turbo lag. once rolling they are pretty good... especially from about 55 to 80 or so.

Don't do it. Buy a 560 V8 model

"1) 180-200 HP 2)Lots of Black Smoke (Theres a lot of diesel trucks around here) 3) 10 second 0-60 times"

A cinch with a 560 except for the smoke. You will have to add oil injection to the exhaust manifold for that. Good luck you moron.
