Vibration Not cured..

i recently bought a 1983 MB 300D turbo from my diesel mechanic teacher. he rebuild the engine himself about 3 years ago. after replacing many old worn out parts. the car seems to run good except this rough vibration at idle. the vibration goes away at higher rpm.. engine shakes like crazy at idle..i replace the engine mounts, engine shocks, transmission mount, rack damper bolts. and check there is no tension on the exhaust bracket. the vibration still there...while i was driving the car on the freeway yesterday. the harmonic blanancer came off. can my vibration problem possibly caused by incorrect installation precedure?????. he also mention that he used new liner, new piston along with other new MB parts in the rebuilded engine. any help is appreciated..

Probably was caused by the loose harmonic balancer. Hard to tell if it was improperly installed. They can come loose by themselves.

vibration

first the vibes. a 300d being a five cylinder has a definate bounce in its idle that is not present on a 4 or a 6. check out another 300 to see if yours is worse.

the harmonic damper coming off is potentially a very tricky problem. if improperly installed the crank can be damaged. recent threads deal with the proper proceedure. DON"T attempt to install a new damper until you read all steps to do. i had an engine which the damper had been bungled on and had to find a new crank and install it. it was not a big problem as we were rebuilding it anyway. if this i snot your case, it will be a major expense to install a new crank as it takes a complete tear down.

this is the counter weight sitting right behind the harmonic balancer. the bolts that holds the pully together has broken off in there...does anyone know the proper procedure on how to put it back on before i take it off? i was told it need to be marked to make sure it is on properly and balanced with the crank.
