I replaced the rear shaft seal on the transmision of an 84 300 sd. Now i need to put the casing on with a new gasket. What torqe should this be tightened to? The book has only the pan gasket which it says is 14 pounds. That figure seems a little low. thanks for the advise. I am a new member and i already love the help.
thanks mike

The bolts back there are 8mm, I think, so that torque would be about right... Be sure not to over-tighten the big bolt on the rear of the tranny. I don't remember it off hand, but a good rule of thumb is not past where it was when it came off (where the lock leaves its print).
