My sunroof is getting a little slow so I figured I would put some grease on it. Searching the posts, I have found that it is best to only use the MB sunroof grease, but I cannot locate it anywhere. I havent checked the MB dealer as of yet but was wondering if anyone had a tube or two I could purchase from them.

Sunroof grease is sold by MBZ in a one pound jar only. However, Rusty Cullen in Atlanta (do a search on the name "Rusty") will sell you a film canister full of it which will probably outlast your car, since a very little of this stuff goes a long long way.

I bought the little tin of grease from Rusty for about $5. According to the refrigerator magnet that came with it, his website is www.buyeuroparts.com, and his email is rusty@mbz.org. I've used it to lube the sunroof tracks, the seat tracks, and a few other little things, but I still probably have 95% of it left. It'll be years before I run out.

What's so special about the MB sunroof grease? Gee whiz there are a lot of good products out there. Isn't anything else comparable?

Yea, what exactly is that stuff. I have some and it looks like silicone greese.

I sent them an e-mail basically just needing a little part confirmation before i spent a couple hundred bucks with them and got no response.

i would suggest a call would probably be better based on my experience.

I called Rusty this morning at 1-800-741-5252. I bought a 2 oz. tin for $10. Not bad considering I could not find it anywhere, and didnt want a pound of it.

As to why is so special....beats the heck outta me, maybe some magical dust inside make it more greasy

When I get it, I will post as to its magical powers that MB had put in the grease

It's supposed to not pick up dirt like everything else does, and not get hard as fast. But I'm skeptical myself and I do believe there is something out there that can do the job just as well. I just can't be satisfied that with all the lube technology advances in the past 20 that there isn't an equivalent.
I have a film canister full of the MB grease myself!

Theres a lube sold at Sears that's for garage door opener gears. Its white opaque paste, and has a wide operating range. I haven't seen the MB stuff, but it sure sounds similar.

Note the dominant factor is likely the regular grease drying out in the cable feed-tube and not so much the MB grease on the slides. I've had good luck with the Rusty-sized canister.

Don't forget to clean out the tube for the cable, it's where most of the slow comes from and it uses moly grease. The critical thing is that you get 100% of the old grease out of both the tracks and the tube. ************** sells a kit with everything you need ( brush for cleaning out the tube, both greases, and step by step instructions with great pictures) for about $38 including shipping. It's the best bet.
