Broken Seat Springs

I have an 83 300SD with some broken springs in the drivers side seat and the motor in the passengers seat won't move forward. Can I take the passengers seat out of a wrecked vehicle, replace my bad motor and use the seat springs in my drivers seat? I'm not sure how to swap the leather seat coverings.

Yes you can.

There is a booklet that is sold by ************** that has a fairly good writeup on the R&R of seats. It's about $12.00 and I found it to be valuable in the little tips required. You can also search on this site. There are plenty of writeups on seat spring R&R.

The answer to your question is yes, you can swap seat bottoms - I've done it. Do a search on this forum.

Look at the DIY tab at top of screen and go to 123 Seat Repair -very similar to 126 unless you have powered seats, then it's just as easy to not remove seat. The process described uses "pool noodles"

There also is another version of spring repair using stainless steel tubing just slightly larger than the spring steel. The tubing is crimped onto the broken spring wire.

Also - almost any upholster can add some springs to your seat cushion if your not into this type of DIY.
