I thought about getting one of those airhorns that you can get in the sporting goods section of your local wallyworld..... Just put it out the window, press down on the top and you blast them away with sound...... You can hear some of them over half a mile away, so Im sure an idiot driver in front of you could hear it, even in an SUV

thanks for all the ideas. I'm still inclined to get stronger electric replacement horns as the space is a little limited.

I have this plan in mind, but just never have gotten around to getting it done. I already have the cb installed, and Dad has an old PA horn laying in his shop. I would probably get myself in trouble with it, though...

Wink Two words....Air Horns!

Howdy.....
Dude,at Advance Auto or Auto Zone,Pepboys etc..You can get a set of dual trumpet airhorns for under 30.00...

I've put them on every car I've had...The entire package is under 11'' .They have saved my butt many a times.Belive me at speed on a highway, a tractor running along with a CB,radio, and air going,Will Not Hear you.....if you just have reg horns.

But if you insist....They do have 120+ dcb electric stock looking horns. They run about 14.00..But they aren't as FUN!

I installed a Hella in my BMW that I bought from Bavarian Autosport (************). Definitely wakes people up. Very easy to install and cost about $50.00.

I think the best horns you could use would be the tri-tones off of a railway train. They are SOOOOO terribly loud and they generally scare the crap right outta ya if you are in line with them. Probably need a good compressor but I garuntee you will get ANYONES attention with them.

Being out on the sand dunes around here you often hear a train horn but there is no train for almost 50 miles. Sounds like the dune buggiers like their tones. I perfer the engine noise myself

So how many of you jumped on board this thread

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/search.php?searchid=323537

now admit that not only do you use the horn, but your horn is too small?

JC Whitny(sp?) has a triple trumpet air horn. My friend has one on his E300D loud as can be. It will get peoples attention and probably would blow your ear drums if you were close enough to it.

$27+shipping, super simple instal just wire the compressor..

I am going to buy one for my SDL as soon as I get off my but and order one. I will wire it up to a horn selector switch like the early 560SEL's had for a nice clean stock install.

I bought an '87 stepvan a few years ago and the horn was really wimpy. I bought 3 used horns at the bone yard and wired them up with a switch on the dash, so that I could either use only the original horn, say to alert someone that I had arrived, or use all four in a much louder cacophony of sound. I don't know how it happened, but they form a melodius chord together. I tried in on a car a while back, and the pitches clashed somewhat, though it was louder. Maybe if you just got the same model Mercedes horn, it would be the same pitch, only louder.

This is the poor man's approach. You can get a horn around here for about $5.

my horn is broken

My horn on the steering wheel is broken but when I use my four locked up tires I get the desired results a big wet spot between the offending driver’s pants. It sounds like a semi is about to hit them. I do it just for a second and not very often maybe once every 2 months I know it cause a little extra tire were but some real inconsiderate jerks really deserve it.

Long time ago I had that setup....I told an undercover cop in an unmaked car to get his a55 up and move it......thankfully he had a sense of humour...as I only got a warning.

Wished my horn worked

Every time I honk my horn I blow the fuse which means the climate control will go straight to heat and stick there and the reverse lights won't work. Its almost worth it to let other drivers know when they're being idiots.

I always wanted to put one of those large Freon horns in one of the vehicles. They were excellent for use on the boat. I suppose that they are not available anymore.
