Replaceing drive shaft bearing on 300d?
As I have shaking under the car, at aroung 30mph, I am needing to replace my driveshaft bearing. Has anyone ever done this. I have taken the driveshaft out, but I am clueless on how to remove the bearing or put the new one one. Does it have to be pressed off?? Looks like it. Thanks ahead of time!

I usually fasten the shaft in a vise with two pieces of wood, to keep from scrathing the paint, or deforming the tube. Then, loosen the large nut that holds the two sectons together.
With a scribe of small punch, mark the splines so they can be put back in the same place. Then, simply slide the spline halves of the shaft apart. Remove the lock ring and pull the bearing off by hand. Sometimes, a little nudge with a hammer and a wooden dowel is needed. Keep in mind the bearing usually doesn't come with the rubber section of the center support. I recommend replacing the bearing. When you put the shaft back in, don't tighten the nut until the shaft is in the car. Be sure to check your couplers...Bert |

I used a gear puller to pull mine when I did it...and tapped the new one home with a proper sized piece of pipe to act as a sleeve to reach the bearing center......do not tap on the outer part of bearying when putting it on the driveshaft...Its a good idea top put the bearign into the bearing support before assembling them on to the driveshaft.

YOu will be $$ ahead by letting a reputable driveshaft shop rebuild it.
Don't worry that much about marking the two 1/2's. There is a permanent factory mark on these driveshafts. I put a pic up on the forum awhile back on how to spot it. Do a search and you should be able to find the posts with pics showing the factory markings.
