Just back from looking at a drivable 1969 220D
with 4spd xmission. Car is a 115.110. Anyone know(or can steer me where to look) whether the tranny will work in my 240D w/auto trans?
Thanks for any replies.

If it's drivable why not drive it? I drove a 69 220D for 8 years and was happy about the whole thing.

trontek.
Isn't a 200D a 115.115 and a 240D a 115.117? Are the transmissions you are talking about manual or automatic? Both are 4 speeds. P E H |

This 220D has 115.110 on the tag on top of the rail in front
Quote:
of the radiator and my '77 240D is a W123(automatic, three spd[has only gone thru two shifting points in the 5k miles I've driven it]). The 220 D is 4spd stick shift. It's been wrecked - but still drivable.

I WAS going to argue with you but
I just went to the car and spent a few minutes with the owners manual. We have a steep hill not far from the house. I put the selector in "L", floored the pedal and held it there - - the rear tires barked when it shifted to second! From the way the engine sounded, sure am glad this model has a clock instead of a tach....
Should I feel guilty for feeling better driving the 240D than I do in the 300SD? The SD just seems too classy for me. If I can scrape up the cash before the '77 rusts completly away, I will get some help restoring it.
