Why i couldn't use a transmission jack on my 85 300D trans install...

The combined height of the transmission and jack was higher than the car's bottom! I couldn't raise it higher than I did, I had the car some 2 feet in the air as it was, any higher would have been unsafe.

The trans was very heavy, say 170 to 200 pounds, and I couldn't lift it into place with my arms. I ended up building a wierd scaffolding to raise it higher and higher into place.

What a disgusting job, slimy grimy fluid all over the place, hot day, muscles all torn and shoulder wanted to come out of its socket when I was done..

Thats something most of us without free access to a lift deal with frequently....having the ingenuity to work around it is what sets some people out from the rest of the crowd...

Hmmm, sounds like my kind of day. But then, I am told I am off a little.

BTDT. I set the tranny on leak pan and slid it under the car. Then I rocked it onto a floor jack. Not a tranny jack, mind you but a floor jack. It wasn't so bad. Getting a 603 head with exhaust manifold and turbo out of the engine bay by yourself without a hoist is worse
