Just curious, what RPMs would the engine be turning in 5th gear at say, 70 mph?

My daughter borrowed my 79 240D for a week while she was in Seattle on biz. I put in a 5 speed tranny since she drove it last. She really liked it when she got on the freeway, I was lucky to get it back

5 speed

i always wanted to try one in a 240 but always wondered if it had the power to pull a taller gear.

Euro 240D

My Euro 240 has a 5 sp ---- plenty of power & speed (80 cruise no sweat) on the flat in Fla, but I don't think it would be my choice in any mtns
I have manual AC, cloth interior, power front & roll-up rear windows, no sun roof (good - didn't want one), both outside mirrors, no nets on the back of the front seats ...... don't know what it revs as the cluster was replaced with a USA one which has a clock instead of a tach.
Gets 29-34 MPG ave --- mostly 31-33 ...

Ideal car for a teenage boy driver!!

Not able to really go fast off the line, built like a tank, cheap to insure(at least no full coverage needed), and reliable-exactly what every young male driver needs!!!

Thats about what I get with mine.

There not so bad in the mountains after you get used to down shifting into 4th at the slightest up grade. Well worth the effort

In my "85" I swapped out the cloth seats for an MB tex set, actually I swapped out almost the entire interior including the dash. The cloth seats with the outboard panels in MB tex are nice but mine were all cloth and a light color, too heard to keep clean.
