Never used the 3rd wrench. A good properly bent set makes the job a whole lot easier.

The third wrench is only needed where the friction of the adjusting nuts exceeds the ability of the spring to hold the valve in one place...
On my 81 wagon only three valves needed the third wrench.... but they REALLY needed it.... and if you start the job on a weekend and then find you need it and have to use that vehicle as the parts runner... then you have to button everything back up and start over after going and getting the bottom wrench. A real bummer.... |

2 or 3 times I had a stuck valve and just used a large flat blade screwdriver and it worked like a charm and was free.

wrenches are now over $110
Haven't been able to locate these wrenches for less than $100 now. I can make the 2 x 14mm wrenches but what to do about the bottom (25mm?) wrench? Does this wrench only exist to adjust the valves on a Mercedes diesel engine? Can I buy it anywhere else besides specialty Mercedes tool suppliers? (Samstag wants $52 for this ONE WRENCH!). I don't think that bucking at this kind of extortion is cheapness.

Morav,
I did a lot of valve adjust jobs on 617 engines and I never needed any special wrenches. P E H |

Here are some wrenches the seller said has been used twice. 50 dollars for all three Hazet wrenches. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HAZET-MERCEDES-VALVE-ADJUSTMENT-WRENCHES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43994QQihZ006QQitemZ160196103184QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
