300SD no power

A non-typing buddy needs input. He's a transmission guru/mechanic and he bought my 82 SD with 150K.

Car ran fine and then started missing, dying in gear at idle. He replaced injectors, ran a little better, but No Power, takes forever to accelerate. Once at speed all is good. Turbo looks good, fuel filters changed. He says it's like timing retarded on a gas car.

Thoughts? and thank you.

Look at the simplest first. You have already done the fuel filter(s). How about air into system (fuel), vent tube in fuel tank, air filter.....

Any thing that starves the system for fuel. Check the primer. Run it off a jar of diesel or diesel purge to take the fuel tank out of the system.

An airtight fuel tank with a clogged vent( this can be checked by loosening the fuel cap, a weak vacuum is normal but a strong one means clogged tank vent) or a clogged fuel tank strainer can cause issues.
