You don't say which car, but I'll bet its a 126 Body. probably 300SD, or SDL.

Its very common on this cars, and yes it is delimitation. Nothing you can do, except change the window.

Thats what I thought. I used to own the identical car and had the same problem. The vast majority of these cars have this problem. Just look around you, and you will see what I mean.

My '83 300D's windshield is milky in the lower drivers' side corner. What exactly is delaminating, and is it necessary to replace the windshield if there is no other obvious problem? Or is this a safety hazard of some sort?

Mine was doing the same thing in the bottom corners. I changed it with one from my parts car, although that one is starting to do it as well.

Yep! Mine too. I've hunted around and found most scrap yards are charging a couple of hundred dollars. The call it "back glass" by the way.

There are 2 kinds of safety glass, tempered and laminated. The laminated kind is made of 2 thin sheets of glass, pressed together with a clear plastic sheet in the middle. In case of an accident the plastic holds the glass together.

If moisture or air creeps in between the glass and plastic it causes a milky white spot. This usually occurs at the lower corner of the windshield or rear glass. There is no cure for this other than replacing the glass.

But it is not harmfull or dangerous, except if it gets bad enough to interfere with your vision. Other than that, it's just unsightly. You can safely ignore it as long as you can see clearly and it is a small spot out of your line of sight.

If it affects your vision and you have glass coverage your insurance company might pick up the tab for a nice new rear windsheild!
