unfortunately, that is the price quoted to me today at an ac service facility. if I remember correctly, dont you need a special permit to purchase r-12?

you are supposed to have one, but online they do not request it. if you need one, just go online and get certified, it costs 15.00 and it's an open book test.

Thanks for the info on the freon, but do you have any suggestions about if the mono-valve failure could cause the ac to act the way that I reported?
