Help with hood star
I have a 220d hood star with the star broken off. I have 2 nineteen seventy six 300d hood stars one I broke trying to get it off the base so I could put it on the 220 star base. So before breaking the last one I thought I would ask if any one new the correct method of removing the star from the hood ornament base? And maybe you could help with this one because it has turned into a far bigger problem than I ever thought it would. The number one key on my computer has died I tried are spare keyboard still no number one key you don’t know how much you use it till it is dead. Ok help on the star removal from the base any one do it other than brute force which has already has broken one star.
Thanks in advance Dave S |

The hood star for the 220D comes off of the radiator shell by releasing the crimped sheet metal sliding device on the underside of the shell. The W123 stars come off of the shell by pulling the tiny rod or pin out of the bottom spring loop. This one is a lot harder to get back together in my opinion. Not sure that the parts are swappable between the two series cars?!?

You could try substituting an l (small ell) for the 1. Or possibly a capital I.

Thank you
Thank you Lycoming-8 I got the newer star off just the way you said it was no problem. I dont quite follow you on the 220 D star I will re-read it after breakfast and see if I can figure it out with out breaking any thing. I have another keyboard with a working 1 but half the keys stick I guess I am luckey now I know it was just a keyboard problem and not somthing mor serious I will go buy a new one.

Dave,
Glad that all worked for you. Had so many broken off in the 80's that I got pretty good at changing them. Finally decided to just run without the gun-sight. Still have one to pull from the parts car so I don't loose it to light fingers.
