Can only speak for the 1986 SDL.
However, it has some very old plastic tubing that loves to split and/or crack. Some of this tubing exits the tank near the bottom and it could be the culprit. Have you lifted the tank out to check for the source of the leak? If it's a small leak in the bottom of the tank, I would think you could easily patch it. There's no pressure in the tank. |

The tank or the connection to the tank pump. The first thing I ever fixed on my SD was the washer tank. The plastic nipple at the bottom leading to the pump was cracked. I carefully drilled out the ID and epoxied in a brass tube (specifically a scrap piece of antenna mast). It's still holding almost 9 years later.

When I had washer fluid loss, it was the rubber seal between the pump and the plastic nipple of the tank. A little silicone grease livened it up and seems to be holding. However, I have seen it available at one of the parts sources if it needs replacing.

motors
on the window motor, does anyone have one out from the 126 body like my sdl? and can you measure for me the diameter , shaft size and number of teeth? i can then compare that to the motors that i have about which might surrender a gear for the cause of the sdl.

The washer fluid also can eat away the end of the fluid pump and when you disturb it, it breaks off and you now have a massive leak. Darn cars failing after so many years of service!!!! |

If the reservoir heater goes bonkers, it can make your fluid evaporate. There's a thermostat that controls the temp of the heated fluid.

From the window motor from the left rear of my 1982 300SD W126.
10 teeth, diameter, measured from the outside of the teeth, ( largest diameter) is about 15/16 inch, shaft diameter is just about 3/8". Sorry, i do not have my mertric tools here. Hope thats what you wanted. There are three tapped/threaded holes for mounting. Two of these are almost on a diameter of the large gear, centered on the 10 tooth gear, and parallel to the motor worm gear shaft, 1 7/8 inch center to center. The third hole is on a line at right angle to the first two, and near therectangular (+/-) pad that mounts the motor itself. The distance from the closest of the first pair of holes to this third hole is also 1 7/8 inches. A picture is worth a thousand words, and I'm about 700 words short! |

The gasket that the pump sits in was leaking on mine. They are simple to change.

ms fowler
thanks for taking the time to do those measurements for me. now i can see if any of the 123 gears will work. of course if they do i will post it. the reason for all this is that my gear is slipping and the parts guys only sell gears with motors attached.
thanks again.
