HELP! aux fan has a mind of it's own.

Not a diesel issue... but there are some pretty smart people here too!

I got home tonight from about a 20 mile highway drive. when I got into the driveway I was suprised to hear the fan running. I ran for about 30 minutes. I went out to start the car up (I was worried about batter drain). It cranked over real hard. Batter yis definately under some stress. I took off the battery until the car coooled down. Hooked up the batter and the damn thing is still going. I assume the temp switch went bad. The temp guage was barely at 90 degrees! Problem is... I have no idea where it is. I tried taking out the fuse labels as aux fan. No good. It still runs as soon as the batter is hooked back up. What can I do to get this thing to turn off. I have a flight in the morning. I need to get this car back on the road TONIGHT! Thanks in advance!

Unhappy

That was my second guess. relay or temp sensor. Trouble is I have no idea where to find either of them.

Disconnect the fan at the connector behind the grille until you can repair the problem.

Hey Puddle,
Put your car info in your signature. It will help us to help you.

The relays are in the fuse block. The first one on the right should be the AC compressor. The one next to it on the left should be the aux fan relay.

At least that's how it is on my car.

Danny

Sorry about that. I thought my sig was turned on. Should be fixed now. Just in case... I have a 91 300E. I could not find a connector anywhere for the fan. I ended up pushing it up the driveway to get out the emergency car (I don't think the neighbors saw us pushing the MB out of the way only to pull out the old buick). LOL. I am out of town until tuesday afternoon. I will look for the relays when I get back in. In the event I have one stuck, anyone know if the relays out of an 87 190E would fit? A guy is parting one out locally and I had planned to go get a couple of things from him tomorrow. I figured if I can get this from him I could have my baby back in no time. Thanks!
