Rear Bumper rubber

My rubber is coming off my rear bumper on my 84 300D. Is it the heat that causes this? Any good tricks for attaching it back?

That's just what I was just going to ask!
I have the same problem on my 85' 300D.
What is the best way to remove and repair?

rubber strip

it folds over a t shaped extrusion on the bumper. a rubber mallet works really well. start at one end and tap it on and on etc. it is really easy once you get the hang of it. if it is in the wrong place simply peel it off and start over. like many benz things a little intimidating but easy once you figure it out.

RUSSB,
I figured mine out. My black rubber has little hooks (for lack of a better word) that fit into slots on the bumper. First you have to push them in, have somebody hold it there (preferably you) while somebody else goes under the car (your wife or some other unsuspecting individual) and pry the hooks over to latch onto the bumper. It should work this way on both sides, but each side slides the opposite way. I thought about sinking a couple screws into it from the rear of the bumper into the black rubber, but the it is tight in there and I didn't have the right screws. Anyway, I hope this helps you.

Ike,
Where the "hooked" parts come together, in the center of the bumper, there is a peice of wire that ties (holds) the two together, the "vee" part with the hooks.
The outer rubber goes over the "vee" part.
Your's probably broke that wire, as has mine, looks like old age got it.
Guess I'll just pull the rear bumper, peel off the outer cover, and see if I can fix it.

hooked

the hooks are on the t shaped piece which is plastic. if you remove the plastic from the rubber you can get the plastic where it needs to be... then you can reapply as i noted above with the tapping.
