A/C No Workie !!!
First post here !!!!!! First I was @ a friends house and we heard a strange noise outside ( just left the car running for a few minutes ) and came out and the a/c condenser fan was wobbling back and forth and clicking on the fan guard . It stopped making the noise , so i went back in the house finished up , but knew there was a problem . On the way home the a/c got warm (in texas summers that's code for hot as
 ) Got home and the fan had stopped which i had figuired would, but why wont the compressor come on ??? I understand the fan keeps head pressure down , but are these two linked some other way ??? I guess i want to make sure that i done also need to replace the compressor ??? oh god i hope not !!!!

|
Check the compressor by turning the forward most portion WITHOUT the engine running. See that it turns smoothly with no metallic feel.

What kind of car do you have ?
Do you have a York or Delco unit ? Where do you live ? Does it turn Smoothly ?

Where is it mounted on the engine ?
Does it look like a Hockey puck on Steriods ? You are almost close enough to run up to Larry's house and let him fix it... "im sorry its a 1980 300sd.... " Don't be sorry... that is a good car...

OK, you have a Delco R4 Scotch Yoke Refrigerant Compressor....
Your bearings have worn out on your Aux Fan... easiest to get a used one.. but in the archives is great info about someone who rebuilt their bearings for about $7 .....and maybe their brushes also... Last edited by leathermang; 06-17-2005 at 03:42 PM.

Hey there semi-neighbor. I'm east of Dallas, but have relatives in Arlington, which is where my wife is from. I have a dead AC compressor, and, as it turns out, a bad aux fan.
