why do I get a feeling this guy is a liar?

Have you seem this guy on eBay? eBay user ID: findgreatcars
He usually sells BMW and Mercedes, although he does sell others as well. I have seen him sell a lot of "low miles" MB diesels. I asked him if he had any records for this car and he pretended to be offended and told me " with that many miles it was not serviced enough to have records".

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6338&item=4556659945&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

It seems like he makes these "low miles" cars. I think misterdiesel.com might actually be honest about the miles on the cars he is selling since he can prove with service records the true mileage; also he sells some cars with high miles, however not usually. This guy on eBay does not seem to sell any cars with more than 50K. Just curious what you all think about these ridiculously priced MB diesel.

We've had significant discussion about him before.

In summary, he offers far too many cars with mileage less than 60K than a prudent man can possibly believe.

However, his feedback says that the vehicles meet the expectation of the buyer. And, the prices that he gets are stratospheric. So, the expectations are also way up there.

I think he searches all over the country for prospects and pays a premium for them. Then he sells them with a fancy ad for significantly above the high price that he paid. Capitalism at it's finest.

In reality, not too much different than Herb Phillips, however, Herb deals with high mileage vehicles as well.

You really can't condemn the guy without some more data.

It seems like you'd be able to figure out if he's messing with them by getting a few carfaxes on ones that are suspicious and see if any have a reported higher milage than what it is in his auctions.....then you'd catch him red-handed. I wonder how offended he'd be then

I have a suspicion that he's too smart to fall for that trick. If he is clocking them, he knows exactly how low to go.

Most state DMV's that require periodic safety and emissions inspections record mileage, also mileage stated on the title upon sale from a seller. It's pretty hard to get away with false odometer readings and if one is caught would likely face criminal charges not to mention lose of dealer license etc.

On the other hand, this vendor has a 100% Feedback rating after 265 transactions - not always a reliable indicator but certainly better than nothing. Also the car does look mint. You can hide some things, but the condition of the leather and console etc. is really indicative of a low mileage car.

Look at the reflection of the guy in the picture of the window chrome.
He has a gold bracelet I don’t know about you but I don’t trust people with gold brackets and hairy arms.

I used to be skeptical of the guy and his cars, but check out his feedback and the condition of those cars and you really end up with no solid evidence against him.

But a 28 year old car with not much more than 1k miles a year means that the fluids would have been changed several times and that the rubber has degraded even if it was in a humidity controlled showroom. Someone paid to put in the McIntosh system...cause that's obviously not OEM so where are those receipts?
So why would he scoff at chiwanga's request for records?

The car might in fact be legit but that doesn't exempt him from being an ass.

Feedback, schmeedback

All that great feedback means is that people are satisifed within what, the first 30 or 90 days, after which you can't leave any feedback at all?

While I supposet that's long enough for smart people to take the car to a mechanic, I bet there are a considerable number of people who don't take it to a mechanic until something goes wrong. And that could be WAAAY after one has already left positive feedback.

Car dealers get an automatic exemption.

It's the only possible explanation that I can think of.

This is unfair.

If you purchase the vehicle, you determine the condition of the vehicle at the time of the purchase. Anything that is wrong with the vehicle at the time of the purchase can be used to discredit the seller.

If something goes wrong with the vehicle after 30 days, how can this be attributed to the seller?

I agree with Brian. 20+ year old vehicles don't usually come with warranties. If you hand over the check and take the title, you have decided the car is okay and that's fair. Checking out a car 30+ days later and finding things wrong or if something breaks 30+ days later... it's all on the buyer and not the seller. This is fair and makes sense. At some point when you buy an old used car it becomes yours and there is not feedback crying about it 30+ days later.

Drive it away and the problems are yours.

From what I've heard, certain people in eastern Massachusetts tend to have you own a 20 - 30 year old car for life in business.

I hope I NEVER have to end up working in business management. Too many headaches, and too many dishonest people who never bind to their read and signed specific literature. They never keep their word.
I have no respect for those who do not keep their word. It drives me nuts.

That said, there's probably an equal percentage of used car dealers that are crooks, misrepresenting many of their vehicles.
