Oil Pressure Question
I believe my oil pressure gauge is working properly, but I just want to make sure since I my 82 300TD is my first diesel. When I start the car with the engine cold the gauge pegs out at 3 when idling. While still idling the pressure drops slowly to about 1.5 as the engine gets warmed up. Then when I accelerate and maintain speed the guage pegs out, then when I take my foot off the pedal it drops down as I come to idle speed again. The previous owner told me this was normal and he hasn't given me any reason to disbelieve him, but I just wanted to make sure since if it is not normal it could cause some serious problems.
Thanks for the help Andrew

The operation of the gauge is perfectly normal. They only peg the gauge when cold or when operating at above 1000-1500 rpm (depending on engine) when warm.
