No air from center vents in my 300D
Hi all.
Hope someone has an answer for my problem. The middle 2 vents in my '92 300D stopped emitting air, even with the fan on high. The side vents are perfect. How do I open the vents to troubleshoot this problem? I purchased a set of manuals on 2 CDs from manualsunlimited.com, but there is no information to help me fix this problem. BTW, don't waste your money on manualsunlimited.com CDs, they are inferior quality and the second CD is supposed to contain the user manuals for the 300D, but instead they contain the user manuals for the '95 E430. Thanks in advance, Bjoern Last edited by bhehmann; 06-22-2005 at 08:05 AM. Reason: modify title |

You have a vacuum leak, almost certainly from the vacuum element that controls the center flap. Do a search, and you'll find more than you ever wanted to know. You can either replace it, which will require dash removal unless you have really small hands, or you can disconnect it. Then you can control the center vents like the outside ones, by turning them on and off manually.

Thanks for the reply, Cateaux.
I didn't mention that even if the system is set to E/C, no airflow is evident from the center vents. Doesn't that nix the theory that the vacuum element is faulty? How do I remove the vents, or squirrel-cage as someone called it, from the dash? Thanks, Bjoern |
