jgroover,

Checking voltage open circuit is not the correct way to check voltage. There could be a lot of resistance in the relay circuit but a high impedance meter will still read 12 volts if there is no current going thru the circuit.

The correct way to check the voltage to the GP is right on the GP terminals where the wires connect to the GP and when the GP are operating.

As far as the oil pressure, it is proportional the the speed of the engine. So when the engine is running rough, it isn't turning as fast and the oil pressure will be lower.

Ok i understand that .. I'll be checking from the connecting to the GP then. Thanks for that. But over yesterday testing and cleaning up the contacts, it seems to start a little easier - i am also letting the GP warm up for longer...

so now i get less white smoke and less shakes but i think i am starting to see some blueish smoke when i first start up and it has intermittant shaking... once i start driving it goes away - blue smoke means oil... so i wanted to look around for anything i could find and i took off the air box cover and the tube that runs from the valve cover to the air box is all gooped up with oil.. i cleaned that out but still have some blue smoke at startup ... why wouldn't it smoke the whole time i'm driving if it's burning oil???

off to the search function!

jgroover,

The blue smoke at start-up could be from oil leaking into the engine thru the valve seals. Its such a small amount that its not noticable when the engine is running. My 300SD does that but still goes 5000+ miles on a quart of oil.

If it doesn't burn much oil in regular use, I wouldn't worry about it. Its to be expected of a 20+ year old car.
