Hello forumeers, I am hopeful that someone can save me from going totally nuts. My '85 300D started squeeking about a month ago and has just gotten worse since. I believe that it is the front lower link on the drivers side. How hard is it to replace the bushings in the front end, as the cheesy manual I have does not detail any such procedure? I would like to install polyurethane if possible/available.
If you have any info I would greatly appreciate it, as I have tried to lubricate the bushing to no avail. Thanks.

Have you tried penetrating oil and silicon Lubricant. Spray all rubber joints liberally and bounce the car up and down. No need to spray the tie rods. They are sealed. My 1983 300SD was squeaking like crazy and I did this to eliminate the noise. It took a while. Maybe three hours, so don't despair. Just keep spraying and jumping on the bumper. Good luck.

Check out the lower ball joint...

I had an unexplained squeek in my front end. After 5 minutes of me rocking the car up and down, and my mechanic (who btw moved back to Germany, sniff, sniff) listening, and grabbing different parts to hear, and feel the squeek, it was determined that the lower ball joint was looking for an early rettirement. He shot some penetrating lube into the slightly cracked balljoint rubber, and it quieted down. Ball joints were replaced 3 weeks later.
Even if it isn't the ball joint, the procedure mentioned above (one person moving the car, the other one litening/feeling) may help you to determine *exactly* where the noise is coming from...eliminating the frusterating guesswork.
