Driveline throbbing/humming
My 1985 300TD wagon has a throbbing sound, under power, at about 50mph...it oscillates about 1-2 times per second and is pretty loud (the word "loud" is relative of course, but the sound is very noticeable).
The throbbing might also be there when I'm not under power, but with road noise and such, and can't heat it. The sound seems to be coming from the center of the car...the driveline is my guess, but I'm very new to 123's, so I'm just guessing. Ideas? Thanks... |
I had an 83 240D years ago which had the same symptons you describe and it was the center support bearing for the driveshaft.

Thanks...that was my first thought.
I'm gonna take it in for service in the next couple weeks and see what the mechanic says. But if I can build a concensus opinion here, then I can buy the parts and do the change myself...I don't think it's very hard, is it? |
not too hard
pretty straightforward. cant remember if you have to drop the exhaust system first. .. maybe.
