Hard brakes often point to a problem with the brake booster, or the vacuum pump.....are you having any other vac related issues? If not then its likely the booster/master cylinder that are the problem.

the problem is vacuum related, i think.

the locks are slow, sometimes on, sometimes off. the car needs the a/c on max to shut off as well=)

the brakes ,once when i first got it, went to the floor when it as wet out. after changing them all to new pads they were mushy(like theyre supposed to be) once or twice.

theyre usually just very hard to push but they stop the car fine. i didnt realize it was a problem because my neon power brakes are really hard and so are the brakes on air cooled vws. but i understand this car is supposed to have mushy brakes, right?

so autozone lends mity vacs? i guess i need one to get this fixed, huh?

My W123 brakes are far harder than my W116 brakes....those ones will send you through the windshield if you breath on them.

mushy?

mushy is good???? i never thought they are mushy.

but you might have a sticky caliper on the front. this will sometimes cause a high pedal and the slight drag will cause the car to track funny and pull.

When comparing the brakes on our three cars, the van's brakes/pedal very hard when compared to the SD's....my pedal feels softer than my dad's does, but they both stop equally well....mine is more of a stopping...stopping more....stopping even more.....Stoppinggg!!!! in how it responds to pressure on the pedal....the '83 is more like "Stopping....Stopping some more.....Stopping quite a bit more.....HALLLT" if you suddenly punch the pedal in that one by accident it WILL throw you into the steeringwheel.....mine doesn't do that.
