Need help with power loss
Yesterday I noticed that the "choke" cable was coming lose at the "throttle linkage assemble" on top of the engine.
Mickey Moused it back together and went to a hardware store to get the right bolt. To find out the car had no power, took forever to get to 30mph, I had to floor the pedal to get the car moving. Car was running perfectly fine an hour earlier. Up till 30 mph it's a real drag, after 35mph it drives like it used to be. Unfortunately I started to mess with the linkage that leads to the transmission, shift points out of whack. After a day of little steps adjusting it and driving it I got it almost back to were it was before, shifts still a little rough. But remember lost of power was before I messed with the trannie linkage. I checked all the vacuum lines and they seem to be all in place. Does the "choke" cable have anything to do with the power of the engine when driving? I'm afraid if I bring it to an indie they will tell me I need a new engine or new transmission. Any help appreciated, Jorn

I think before anyone is going to take a chance on answering you are going to need to be more specific about this ' cable' ....
Our diesels are turned off by turning off the fuel... a choke is usually an air throttle... Any chance you could post a picture with your finger pointing to the item in question ? Would hate to think you meant another item and cause you to mess up more stuff with bad advise... |

Unfortunately can't post a picture but it's called the Idle adjustment cable (engine idle speed knob). Hope this makes sence.

is this thread a redo? i thought i responded to this several days ago. i dont see what the idle adjustment cable has to do with loss of power.... unless a part of the linkage just fell apart that affects both.

I know, that's why it doesn't make any sense to me. But that's what happened; idle cable came lose, poor acceleration.
Acceleration was pretty good before, for a non turbo.
