Good Story. Yea if everyone got this type of Mileage Detroit would be Bankrupt! They had a story awile back about one school teacher from Boston who put 425,000 on his 1983 Honda Accord with no major motor work. And of course there is Irv Fischer who by now has 2 million miles on his 71 p1800 Volvo!

And why he says his van's engine has lasted this long?

"But me, from day one I used Mobil 1, that's that synthetic oil, and I think it's the one reason I'm still goin.'"

And now, it's time for another oil thread!

Yea but at least they did not say "the powerstroke engines are million mile engines"

I get so sick of seeing that describing the Mercedes engines. I have seen very few Mercedes with 400k plus miles. No on the other hand I have seen lots of Cummins in the 400k plus range.

The Cummins is the best engine ever put in a passenger vehicle, and will go a million miles. However not alot of people would want to keep a Dodge that long.

Local friends call those "terrorist vans"

They are kind of cool, you literally sit right on top of the engine... A friends delivers for the bank and they send him all over the easts coast in his own cars, usually volvos which he gets 400K, 500K out of, parts them out (his house is the most organized used parts collection I have ever seen, literally 10 of everything in bins), fills them full of trash and has them hauled away... Cars are usually not more than $2K with 100 or 200K miles on them when he gets them, mostly Volvo 240 wagons... There is also a volvo that has gone 2 million miles, with the engine rebuilt only once at 1.4 million.. But I have drive one of those, no hundred thousand counter, just tens. He would have to keep good records and really really drive the snot out of it. He has been given two cars by Volvo each time he reached 1 millon...

My friend had a 1988 audi with 647,000 before he traded it in for a newer car. The dealership credited him 50 dollars for the car and sent it straight to a junkyard. It was a manual and only 1st and 4th worked out of 5.

....mom's saturn has 205,000....

sigh, can't compete.

I think the reason it's gotten so far is because it burns a quart of oil every 100 miles. I'm not joking, that little car leaves a blue cloud whenever I rev it past 4000 rpm (it redlines at 6.5). So basically it gets an oil change every 400-500 miles or so. That and myself/my father do regular oil changes on all of the family cars.

Have you tried putting Auto Rx and then using a thicker 15W-50 oil?

I know someone on my street who has a mid 90's chevy lumina with about 248,000 on it.....he said the guy he got it from just constantly traveled the freeways for his business job. The thing looks to be in very good condition and seems to run pretty well too, (haven't really seen it up close running much) but 248,000 on an unrebuilt/replaced chevy V6 is pretty amazing......at least he says its original.
