76' 300D injector leak
I have owned my 76' 300D for about 2 yrs now, in excellent condition. There is diesel seeping from all five injectors on the head. I just learned to do an oil change on it and how to truly become a greasy girl. It was fun. Well, I dabbed up the fuel around the first injector and in about 10 seconds the fuel returned. The longer it is running the more fuel leaks, about a 2 hr. trip I can smell the fuel in the cab if my window is down. There is also either fuel or oil seeping from the head gasket, progressivly getting worse. My bro is my mechanic and he said he doesn't have the "special benz tool to do it"/// Being what? Also he has never done an injector job. He is shipping off to the Air Force July 16. I love my 300D, and I want to keep it in the condition that is in. Any Help. Thanks.

Look at the braided rubber lines between the injectors. They often become brittle and start to leak. Very cheap to fix.
As for removing injectors, you need a 17mm open end wrench for the injector lines and a deep 27mm socket to remove the injectors. That's it. When you remove the injectors, it is also recommended to change the heat shields, which look like tapered washers under each injector tip. To disassemble an injector, all you need is the same 27mm socket and a vise. Hope this helps.

My hoses between the injectors just started leaking lately.... they had lasted two years... I was amazed that they all started leaking within a very short time of each other.
Putting a new valve cover gasket on is pretty straight forward and does not cost much... |

hosed
did you use the original style braided hoses? sorry to harp on it but non factory dont last very long and leaking at the base of the injectors seems unusual.

Heat shields the problem.....maybe?

Benz*girl,
Here is a simple test. You have the tools needed in your handbag or pocket (OOPs, sexist remark will be held against me) Clean off the injector and wrap it tightly with tissue paper. There should be no fuel wetting the tissue. Start the car and then use the STOP lever to stop the engine after a few seconds of running. Re-check for fuel wetting the tissue. You will quickly find out at what point the fuel is leaking. In order of probability: 1. Return lines. - ~95% 2. Injector fuel line nut - ~4.99% 3. Injecotor body - ~0.01% 4. Base of injector - ~0.00% Worst case, you may get combustion gases escaping here. Hope this helps.

If fuel is coming up from the base you have bigger problems, like a cracked pre chamber. I would be shocked if this was the case though.

Cracked pre-chamber?
If fuel is coming up from the base you have bigger problems, like a cracked pre chamber. I would be shocked if this was the case though.
What is the pre-chamber and how do I tell if it is cracked. I would imagine the head probably needs to be removed. I hope this is not the case. What does the future hold if this is the problem and I don't get it fixed right away?
