1983 300TD for SALE. In great condition!

Hi All!

I am selling my 1983 300TD Station Wagon; I am selling it because I recently bought a 230SL and I need to make room in the garage. I will be back in WV and can show the car from July 10 - onward. Let me know if you are interested. Car will be advertised in Hemmings and elsewhere also.

1983 Mercedes-Benz 300TD
Turbo Diesel Station Wagon
OM 617 5-cylinder diesel engine
Silver exterior, shiny with some blemishes
but looks very tidy, straight and presentable
Blue Interior looks very presentable
Two cracks forming in the blue dashboard,
I have a blue dashpad on it to cover and protect
I would love to put a new blue dashboard in it but they are impossible to find
174k miles original
Automatic transmission shifts well
New dealer installed factory rear axles, upper/lower ball joints, rear and front brakes, air cleaner bushings
Air conditioner serviced and blows cold
Even has the chrome cross bars still!
The cruise control works, the transmission shifts well,
It doesn't smoke, There are new original Bosch European headlights on it
now with the vacuum height adjust control (haven't installed the vacuum
height adjust part yet because I leave it to the new owner to decide where
to put the switch)
All the chrome is excellent, the car looks very good
Rustfree, a former Nevada and California car transplanted back East and Garaged and not driven in snow
Two general keys, two valet keys
First aid kit
Not perfect but a very dependable ride and strong, worry-free and rust-free
I am surprised at the number of admirers of it
Over $6000 in parts and maintenance done recently, I am definitely going to lose money on selling this car but that's okay because I have loved it.

Oh, I am asking $5450 firm. Hope you all don't think I am nutz!

By the way, the 300TD is still at it's comfy home in the garage. The 230SL is parked outdoors.

Haha. It's "Waste Virginia," as some would pronounce it....

I am not inflexible on the price.

Glad you put that cause the "Firm" had me thrown off....

I especially like the "It doesn't smoke" part of the description. Although some folks say that rolling billows of smoke give a car personality!

Chad, what's the condition of the self-leveling suspension?

Suspension

I think it must be fine. I am no mechanic or expert. The car is level, travels level. And stays level when it brakes. No dip or diving.

Had the dealer go through it after showing him an "open checkbook" to make the suspension ride right and feel good to me and they replaced the upper/lower ball joints, both rear axles, brakes, all the other axle parts which I can't name. The car feels very good. Then I wrote out the check for $3200 for that cause I wanted factory parts and had to wait for the axles from Europe.

I know these cars have a nice but complex leveling system, I know that it lasts a long time with proper maintenace but is expensive to fix if something were wrong. The car feels fine to me and I assume the dealer would have nailed me for fixing it if it were a problem. But I can't say for sure.

The thing to check on the rear suspension is: Does it sag in the rear after sitting for 2 or 3 days? If you don't start the car for a couple of days or so, and it has not "leaked down" and sagged in the rear, then it's probably in good shape.

It does not do that after sitting as far as my naked eye can tell.
Actually, I came back just last month from eight weeks of working out West and the car looked great in the garage and it started right up on the first crank. I didn't notice any sagging. I was pleased to note that the ac was blowing cold in the 90+ weather. I do like Mercedes Benz.....

It's not a perfect car. It's a dependable and spiffy looking 22 year old car. Here are some pics from when I drove it in NH.

My paint guy at work has been looking for a 300TD. I'll mention it to him next time I see him. If you could, please send the pics to my email account if you don't mind.
