Turn Signal Doesn't Work
I've been trying to get my turn signal working again on my 76 300D. (114/115 chassis) The turn signal doesn't work but the hazard flasher does. I pulled the relay and opened it up, it looked okay inside (any way to test it?) The combination switch had some melted wires, so I changed the whole thing, but that didn't fix it. Also, when I put in the new switch, my horn stays on. So any suggestions? Is there a fuse for the turn signal? I check all the places I know there are fuses and they're okay.
Thanks for your help ~Jeff |

Take the fuse out and clean the ends with emory cloth then clean the spring clips that hold it in. If you don't know which one it is just do them all. This is what fixed mine, the location of the fusebox subjects the connection points to corrosion. When cleaning the clips wrap the emory cloth around a small screwdriver then scrub away.

Fuses are very clean, no oxidation at all.
So my horn is fixed, the wires on the new switch were crossed. But turn signal still doesn't work. Also, my headlights don't seem to work anymore. parking lights, high beam works, but not the regular lights. I checked fuses. Anything else? ~Jeff |

Benz76,
You might have a problem in the switch on the steering column since the headlights and turn signals are both in the same switch. By regular lights do you mean low beam headlights? With the lights on, check that you have 12v to ground on both sides on the appropriate fuse. Measure with the probes on the fuse holder, not the fuse. P E H |

On the right path
Howdy...I'm not a tech expert...and in fact here pursuing some problems of my own...but as I have 3 MBs in the drive (and an assorted # of other cars), I can say that the type of problem your having is VERY frequently connected to that 4 way flasher switch. That is a key junction in these systems and when any lights, etc don't work...it can frequently be traced to connections there being loose, on wrong, etc.
Also, if you replaced it recently and didn't get the exact right one for your car...(they do change by VIN etc depending on many things)..the plug may look the same and the contacts even fit, but the positioning of the wires, or the internal of the switch is different - and weird results. Why so much seems to go through there makes some sense I guess if you consider how much importance they put to the 4 way emergency system circuit - no key, shorts, etc..they want those to work. Hope it helps. |
