Mystery Surrounding 603 fFront Crank Seal?

My front main is leaking pretty badly and I'd like to fix this of course. I bought a front seal from the dealer however I remember reading something about not being able to just draw the bolt up which in turn would draw the hub in. I believe Larry said that there is a dowel pin that has to be hit in or what's the story behind that.

Thanks
David

carefull!

i cant give you the correct proceedure but i can say dont try it until you are absolutely sure you know how to do it. if done incorrectly you can ruin your crank and that is an egine out repair...$$$$$$$$$.

this is something i would leave to the professionals, personally.

I did it successfully on my brother's 190D 2.2 with a 601. I just don't know if a 603 is different. If I were to take it to an idie it would cost me ~$250. I know that doesn't sound like much but I'm 19 and will be starting college in August and my car will be parked in storage.

I don't recall the FSM saying anything about hitting a pin back in? Of course the dowel pin has to be lined up with the groove in the balancer. I had a member here say they would let me borrow their tool for the cost of shipping and I can rent a balancer puller from Autozone for nothing.

Thanks
David
