1999 E300 Diesel.....Need Catalytic Converter

I also posted this in the parts forum. My buddy up the street is looking for a Catalytic Converter for his car. If you know of a parts car of this vintage, please let me know. Something inside of the converter broke loose and it rattles at low RPM's.

EDIT: OK I wasn't paying attention, its an E300.

How will they know if they don't test or check it visually?

Nosy neighbor could rat you out I suppose.

Some states have emissions test on diesels.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but these cars don't even have a catalytic converter. They have something called an oxidation catalyst which is just an evolved version of the old trap oxidizer. An E320 would have a cat, are you sure this car in question is a diesel?

I noticed it and he did correct it to say it was an E300 Turbodiesel

He should probably get it fixed promptly. Stuff rattling around doesn't sound like a good thing, the least could happen is he would ruin the turbo.
Any chance of a warranty fix like on the old traps?

Something broke loose in my cat converter and I have to replace it now. This is an expense that I didn't need. Please contact me if you know of a cheap replacement part available.

I know his car is a diesel, I was just saying that diesels don't have catalytic converters, at least not until ULSD is available nationwide. That's why I was wondering if he's talking about the oxidation catalyst instead.

My whole exhaust has internal rattles that are driving me nuts.. I'm thinking of getting a custom 2.5 or 3" exhaust put on it and be done with it.

OK guys, don't flame me, I'm a 123/617 guy not a W210 guy. Car is an E300 and something that looks very much like a catalytic converter (between the exhaust manifold and the tail pipe) is rattling like the dickens. Could be an oxidation catalyst? Was that PC enough? OK where can we find one of these buggers? Potomac is a start, thank you.

You can take a look at the Magnaflow Diesel Cats. They are likely to be cheaper then an MB replacement part -maybe less restrictive as well. However they are shaped like a muffler and probably wouldn't fit in the space of the MB unit which looks like a canister and is right under the turbo exhaust manifold. Probably would need to do some rearranging of the plumbing.
