fuse issues

This has been an issue w/every older Benz I have ever owned but is especially problematic w/my 83 300 turbo deisle.

I am constantly rotating and replacing fuses which are apparently oxidized and not making maikng a proper connection.

I am sure it is the fuse connections, top & bottom, and I have been reluctant to lightly sand these upper and lower fuse connectors for fear that they will corrode even further (New England), but whatelse can I do but try to buy a new fuse box with the new connections...probably not even availble, not to mention the inherent issues with making all the soldered connections necessary?

The car runs perfectly. I love it to death but this is becoming a real issue!

Please help...Thanks!!

Are you using the updated copper fuses? I have had no problem with the copper ones. Or you can put a little di electric grease on the fuses.

scrape

with a small knife blade, dont sand. i just insert the point into the fuse holder and twist. sanding will leave sand residue. not good.

I agree with Hattie on the copper fuses. If you have the aluminum fuses, you are just waiting for a problem to develop.

What I really would like to find are the glass fuses with a completely enclosed wire. Supposedly NAPA has these, but, I haven't tried to get them.

Those are a very common item. 1.5Amp 2A 4A 6A 8A 16A 20A 24A 30Amp etc... It's all I use in my fusebox. No more bent tabs when installing new fuses.

OK, spill the beans...........where did you pick them up??

Everybody should use them, but, they are not easily obtained.

I should go purchase about 10,000 of them. Bet I could sell them all to every single person on here. ............except you, of course.

Brian every good marine store should have a large selection of tinned glass fuses. Mine has a rack of them plus we have bins of the od ball ones in the back.

Some are pretty long and fat some are short and skinny. You are breaking new ground Brian, I have no idea of which ones will work.

Boldly going where no MB owner has gone before!

I like the idea of using the glass type fuses. The only problem is that they don't come in different colors so they're a bit harder to identify when you're doing replacement and whatnot. The amp rating is stamped into the metal hat, and can be hard to read in poor lighting. I suppose marking each with different colored Sharpie would do the trick.
