1984 300SD Boost Gauge
Does anyone have an instrument cluster from a 300SD they can take pictures of for me? I am trying to decide the best place to put a vac/boost gauge and don't like the idea of using a 'pod'. If there is clearance in the panel, I can take the gauge apart and implant it there.
I guess I could pull my gauge, but if someone has one sitting on a shelf I would appreciate the help. |

Hey,
Don't bother pulling your cluster out. I'll tell you right now there's no room. If you do a search you will see the different ways people have added them. Usually with pictures. I have seen people removing the ashtray and adding gauges. Adding a gauge somewhere on the dash. Or like I did, Under the dash mounted to the side panel by the drivers right knee. Sorry no pictures. I like the way it looks. I you decide to do it this way just make sure you leave enough room to remove the panel under the stearing wheel. Danny

I made a panel with a Voltage Gauge, 12V outlet, and Boost Gauge in it that fits where the ash tray went. Since my ash tray hadn't been used ever in the life of the car (and never will) I decided I may as well use the dash realestate for a purpose.

It's best to find a same year gauge set so the pin-outs match. You'll have to reassign pins and do other custom wiring. If you're crafty you can rework the LCD temp display from an 86-91 W126 to display boost. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

I removed the tach needle by pulling it straight off and then I used a bimetal hole saw on the center hole for the clock. Did a little trimming on the black plastic under the chrome bezel for the boost gauge but it wasn't too involved. Works perfectly. No night light. Jim '82 300SD |
