Temperature gauge not working on instrument cluster....

The instrument gauge on the 1984 190D stopped working. It was jumping all over the place yesterday and it finally gave out today. I am wondering what are the possibilities ?

Thanks

Happened to me too about 3 months ago.... temperature gauge was acting up, bouncing around, etc... for about 2 weeks, then one day it just stopped working. Turns out that the wire that goes into the black clip thing on the tip of the sensor detached - 5 minute fix and its back to reading 13 degrees too high just like before!
