you are not doing a bad thing by replacing that line. You would have to remove it to clean it anyway. However, to piece by for 2 days it might be worth a try to put a slit piece of rubber tubing over the pipe and clamp it well.

You are still better off with a new pre-formed line. Much cheaper than a cooked tranny due to loss of fluid.

I tried the rubber patch trick and it worked for a while. (Especially, when you break down in west Texas and the nearest thing to MB parts is 5 hours away.) But due to vibration and the location of the repair, the patch did not last long. After two more patch jobs, I finally decided it was futile.

Two hours later, after replacing the line with new clamps and serviced the transmission, it was something I did not have to worry about anymore.
Be sure to replace the clamps to make it last another 20.

soldering has worked so far

The leaking line happened to me, exact same spot. I looked around for a new or used line and couldn't find one. So I took it off and had a guy solder it. It was a very tiny pinhole with a little metal worn away. The clamp was too tight and/or bent and the vibration from the engine rubbed it. I havent read all the replies, but to r+r the line there is no need to drain anything. I had a pan under where the metal attaches to the rubber line, lost mabee 5 ozs. when disconnected. Nothing came out of the trans, though it was jacked up on the side of the hole, perhaps if it was level it might have a bit. The hard part was just how dirty everything was. After spending $25 on power washing the underside is still filthy. I took my time cleaning the area where the line goes into the trans to minimize any grime getting into the trans or line. I think it is a 19mm bolt at the trans. Also the plastic that go over the line where the clamps are were deteriorated. I had some hard plastic hose-the kind that supply vacuum to the brake booster-cut these to fit over the line and then used heat shrink over that. Just an idea. Not into paying $$$ for a few pieces of plastic. If anything I would have got new washers where the line goes into the trans, my old ones did work though. It was also a little difficult to remove the line once disconnected at both ends. A little bending was necessary to get it out and in. I was a little worried that any bending would comprimise the line but it doesn't leak now. I have not driven the car much...so can't say this is really as good as a new line. Perhaps a call to the MB dealer would be better. Have plenty of rags/paper towels ready, some cardboard or something to catch to chunks of black grease if you don't want them on the driveway. Don't clean your bathtub until after the line is in.

I improvised per above with the plastic pieces that go under the clamps, so the stock clamps were a little small. Local hardware store had ones that worked fine for under a buck, likely I could have used one size smaller and the stock plastic pieces if they were in good shape. If I had a mint condition car then rigging wouldn't have the same appeal.

I ordered the part from the dealer, $40 for the line. It'll be in on Friday, but until then, I'm rigging it with a hose and some clamps.

It's all good....
