Fuel

I'd like to give the fuel pump a test for delivery- car does feel like it is starving for fuel. There is NO smoke at all from it, while my '91 smokes when running hard and shifting. Also, I keep driving it and the fuel needle isn't going down as it does in the '91. I suspect fuel delivery problems now.

Anyone know how to test the output from the fuel pump (ounces / minute or some such measure?)

Diagnosis is fun- kind of like detective work.

The procedure for checking fuel delivery is to disconnect the fuel return line and use a spare fuel hose to redirect the fuel into a container. Operate the starter to spin the engine at 150 RPM for 30 seconds. The shop manual goes through an elaborate procedure for hooking up a remote starter switch but I don't see any reason you could not just hold the manual fuel delivery shut-off on the IP in the closed position and spin the starter using the key.

The minimum amount of fuel delivered into your container should be 150 cubic centimeters - which if I've done my metric conversions correctly would be about 50 oz of diesel fuel.
