seatbelt retractor springs?

my seatbelts are saggy. they hang limp and don't retract fully, only to seated position. i searched the archives and could not find a solution. is there a spring that needs replacing, and if so, how would you go about it?

300+ miles on the new benz and no problems yet. i think i know what all the buttons mean now. passed inspection today, and before i could say "let me do that!", the dude put my inspection sticker on all crooked, and didn't get all the old gunk off underneath. now i have to look at that cockeyed thing in my face for two more years . even if you have some pissant job, you should still do it well. thanks for listening to me vent.

oh yeah, and i don't know what space age substance is in those mr. clean erasers, but they do wonders on dirty interiors. i just made sure to wipe it off with a damp rag immediately afterwards and vinylex it when dry, because they do take whatever sheen was on it right off. my door panels that i had thought about replacing now look very passable, save for some intense tobacco stains in the corners, as will, i'm sure, my backseat, which is also way grody.

Remove the pillar cover and have a look inside. There's probably loads of hair, dust and other gunk in the seatbelt retractor spindle. Amazing what can accumulate over the years.
