AC leaking onto my carpets

My drivers side carpet is getting soaked with the condensation from the ac. Is there a drain for this that is backed up or something? What is the best way to fix this?

You may have been paid a visit by our friends the Mud Daubers. They love A/C condensation drains!

The drain is located near the transmission tunnel on these cars. Carefully run some wire, coat hanger, etc., up the drain and caution you may have a small flood, when it clears so don't lay directly underneath it.

Your drain if original, has deteriorated. Located at the top of the tranny tunnel and under the evaporator box is a foam style tube that directs the water to the drain hole in the tranny tunnel. It has fallen apart. Remove the passenger side under dash cover and possibly the center console carpet section to replace the tube. It is a tight fit.

It usually isn't that the drain is clogged, it usually just deteriorates. It was some type of foam piece that guides condensation from evaporator box through a hole in the floor above tranny.
I used a Diet Dr. Pepper plastic bottle neck to fix my '80. The '85 still has the foam, and is probably not long for this world.
I'll attach a thread with pics. I don't know if an SD is like a 123, but that is my effort to help.

I've sprung a leak, evaporator drain hose...

We got some of "the good stuff" a few months ago. The wife and my older kids made quick work of it. I'm used to diet, so I can't stand the real stuff.....

Mine used to flow onto the floor of the drivers side rear and somewhat into the front floor areas a little bit. Then my a/c failed....so I didn't have to worry about it anymore.

a good fix

This is a very common deterioration.....to fix permanently, I used a piece of standard black rubber hose (like coolant system hose, or washing machine drain hose). I dont remember the exact size, but the inside diam. fit properly over the drain "barb", and the outside diameter fit snugly into the hole in the transmission hump. I should note that it was a little frustrating to get this thing in there due to difficult access, but once in, never a problem again.

That IS a good fix Mark. I will duly note that. Thank you!

leak

i have seen the foam around the expansion valve fall off. this will allow condensation to drip on the drivers feet area, have you looked at the expansion valve to see if it has the insulation still?

I thought the exp valve was on the passenger side on all of them? Where would it fit on the drivers side with all that other stuff thats under there?

on all 126 chassis cars the expansion valve is on the drivers side under the dash, you can see it by removing the knee bolster area.
on an '83 300SD i had there was a problem where water dripped on the floor and soaked the carpet it was from the expansion valve icing up and when the ice melted water was dripped.
on all 123 models the expansion valve is on the passenger side under the glove box area.

I often lower the transmission cross member (for other service) notice this issue, and feed a new hose through from under the car.
