That's a clean top. It looks good up and doesn't leave a huge visible bulge behind the rear seat. The soft top of an R129 should be that clean.

cool

looking car. reminds me of the big "adenaur" 300 of the fifties and early sixties. of course they were a lot bigger than a 126.

I saw a white 70's Cadillac limo convertible similar to that W126 at the beach on Saturday afternoon in Malibu on the way to a Biodiesel meeting.....extremely gaudy

I don't know.

The W126, although reasonably stiff, doesn't seem like it could withstand the top being removed. The undercarriage, with it's unitbody frame, does not lend itself to proper stiffening.

Seems like a big W126 convertible would have the body flexing all over the place, given sufficient time.

yeah

prob true. the bmw 320 converts look like they simply add another layer of a more square shape to the outside of the rocker panels. there may be other reingorcing as well. i suppose the people who do these conversions simply cut off the top and start adding steel til it seems stiff enough. i drove a 280c that had been chopped into a convert once. it wasnt too bad but not as stiff as a normal benz.

Yeah tell me about it, the 325ic has like 5inch tall steel plates on each side...its like I am climbing into a canoe...

I think the w126 body would be flexy as well, but you never know what those people may have done to it to make it stronger.
I wouldn't drive it very much but I think its pretty cool regardless
