300sd turbo removal problem
Got a cheap 300sd a couple days ago. It is in decent shape, only the turbo is bad. ( blowing smoke, leaking oil and a lot of play in the bearings) So I thought it would be a simple bolt operation to have it removed to be rebuilt or replaced. The 4 exhaust bolts are very hard to reach, at least with the standard tools I have. I got 3 of them out, but can't get to the last one on the lower left side. I searched the archive, but for everyone it seemed easy. At least most threads talk about the actual rebuild. I am not even that far . Has anyone tips for special tools or technique to get to that last one.
This is for a 82 300sd with Air research Turbo. ( I think it's the same as the Garrett ) |

I had trouble with it too
I had a lot of trouble with that one too. As I recall I socked it in a ton of penetrating oil and used a stubby wrench on it.
