Is this is normal...?

I can't help but notice two things everytime I drive my '77 300D

1. The needle for the Oil Pressure Gauge in the dash is always as high as it can go. Is this normal / or maybe the gauge is messed up / or maybe I have a problem?

2. The car seems to run very hot all the time (according to the temp gauge). The needle is always on the last dash before the red, however never overheats even on the hottest days or going up the steepest hills. It runs like this whether it's 40F or 90F. I don't know if just the sensor or the gauge is going, or if it's supposed to be like this, or if I have mechanical coolant problems.

Thanks!!

Oil pressure normally pegs at 3 bar and at idle reads between 1-1/2 to 2 bar.

Temp should read between 80c and 100c normally.

It sounds like you have some gauge/electrical issues. The oil pressure gauge should only be pegged when the engine is cold or when above 1,100 rpm when hot. The temp gauge may not be reading correctly which means the sensor on the engine or the gauge itself are not functioning properly.

Check the wire running from the oil gauge sender?
Mine got pinched off, and the gauge would peg at 3+ bar whenever the ignition was on. I can't remember if it was a short or open circuit that did it, but it was the wire..

Thanks guys - I figured it was more electrical related. Because my fuel gauge goes wacky under half a tank, and my odometer doesn't work. Is this a one part job or are there many issues at hand?

Many issues and they are typical. Do search for each problem there are many threads about these issues. Oil guage isn't an electrical issue or even a issue at all. Half way at idle and all the way when going over say 10 mph.
