Star November/December 1992, p. 26. Star January/February 1992, p. 19. The filter paper in the strainer should face away from the vacuum pump and away from the injection pump/shut off device. Put one as close as possible to the T fitting branching off the thick vacuum line going from the vacuum pump on the front of the engine to the brake booster. That way it will protect all the vacuum lines served by that big line. Put the other strainer as close as possible to the shut off device on the back of the injection pump. On 123 models this should cover everything. I put these on a 1977 240D and a 1984 300D turbo. I don't know if more than two are needed on the SDs. Let us know how this works out.
