It's all about training.

My daughter uses my 115 as her daily driver and if asked, she could tell you that its a normally aspirated, 4-stroke, OHC, diesel. And, she knows why its a diesel (as opposed to a gasser) and what that REALLY means too. Scout has learned to appreciate the high standard of Daimler-Benz engineering, the quality of the components and the uniqueness of driving a reliable, 30 year-old vehicle that doesn't look exactly like every other car on the road.

When she graduates from college next spring, her graduation gift from me will be a really clean Euro 240D (sans 5-speed) that I've been saving for her. I know that she'll appreciate it too.

I totally agree on the new money/old money dichotomy. In my neighborhood, near an "old money" part of town, there are tons of old 240's, 300's, those old MB v-8 sedans (6.3's) all in really good shape. Mine is one of the worst because it has wheel well rust in the back driver's side. There are also several 2002's, a 2002 tii, and old XJ6's all over the place, driven by some seriously old ladies. Its too bad the girl in the original post wasn't a car person. I knew a young girl who had a 300D, and after less than a year it was a ruined hunk of garbage.

Randy,

Will it have it's self leveling suspension? I could have used it on my 240D when I moved east. Actually thought about your car when I was filling the trunk.

Most people around here in the NW region seem to not appreciate their automobiles. There is the handfull that can appreciate old steel but no real old money classy german steel.

Most people I see in old Benzs are elderly and look like they have a thorne in their butt.
Their cars are nice but their attitudes twoards me are not. Only one guy has ever recognized and given me a solid wave before I got the chance to do it to him.

Young people in Mercedes around here is uncommon...mostly parent's cars. Go figure...thus they are either scared of hurting it or out joyriding...not appreciating the other mercedes

I blow smoke on them all
