fuel gauge questions

hey everyone,

I have 82 300SD. About a month ago, I put seafoam into the intake to clean out the engine. I put the rest into the tank. Ever since i did this the gauge in the dash has acted up. I have a pair of infinity 12" subs in my trunk. Every time the bass hits the needle moves about 1/2" more towards empty. The gauge never did this before the seafoam, no matter how hard the bass hit. any ideas anyone?

Kris

im eclipsed by the knowledge of others on this board but this is my guess-

its a completly irrelated coincidence.

bass in a trunk(how much music does one need?) HAS to shake the fuel tank a little, not jiggling, though; more like a constant vibration. my guess is it broke one of the solder connections in the fuel sender cables/wires.

someone else should chime in and correct me though=)

Hey,
If you want to remove and clean the fuel level sender here's how:
-Remove back seat. 2 red handles on each side. Comes out easy.
-Remove back of seat. 3 or 4 bolts.
-Remove protective cover about half way across the back.
-Pull off connector and remove sender with a pair of channel locks. Take your time pulling it out it will be full of fuel. Don't lose the O-Ring.
-CAREFULLY pry off the nylon end nut.
-Pull the end plates off and take out the mechanism. DO NOT BREAK ANY OF THE WIRES.
-Clean deposits and reasssemble

I agree. Turn the volume down. The neighbors will appreciate it.

the thump is causing a voltage drop on your electrical,

either that, or your fuel level sender is sticking.

Thumbs up

Both gauges in my vehicles do not work, I'm to the point where I'm considering new Sending Units as I have to get a new tank for the SD anyway...

Unless you can simply clean the corrosion off the unit.
