White smoke from 1982 MB 300SD

I recently purchased this car and once I cranked it up, clouds of white smoke came out of the exhaust pipes. The smoke problem got a little better the more that I ran the car (it had been sitting for about 2 months). Is there anything that I can do to eliminate this smoke problem.

Thanks
B

white smoke

Run this car hot check it goes to the proper temp if not change the thermostat ,the white smoke is water boiling in the engine so there may be a small leak somewhere??

Thumbs up

My SD did that as it sat for over a year, the more I drove it the less it did... I believe it had H2O in the fuel...

I have this problem too. When I start the car it will smoke white for a while until it warms up then it will stop. The car will start in 1 crank just about every time, the compression is awesome, it doesn't lose coolant. It leaks a little oil, but it's about a quart/3000 miles, so I think it burns a little too.

The engine smoked a little at start up before I swapped it, but now it's embarassing. My old engine did the same thing, I've run at least dozen tanks of fuel through, so I dont' think it's fuel. I'm going to do diesel purge and change the filters and see if that helps. The tank did have some seriously funky stuff in it at some point but I figured it would be gone by now.
