My fix for leaking trans dipstick

No doubt, there is an issue with the mounting surface of my dipstick tube. I think from the onset it is of poor design with only one screw point. There should have been a tab in the casting to hold the other end down or double screws or a threaded end which you would get to from under the pan area.

I tried new o-rings to no avail, even 2 sacked. Still leaked like crazy. I bought a tapered washer that is used for a sink and stuck it on the tube side and put the o-ring into the casting. Finally no leak...it would seem, I still need to test drive it...but to boooooped. I don't like working in 100+ temps.

Sorry no.

At this point if I took one, you would not see the washer as it is under the metal flange.

The washer which is generally grey in color and available where ever plumbing parts are sold, comes (most of the time) in 3 heights. I used the middle height washer. All of them have a taper and are used for the water supply lines for the water valve to chrome toilet water supply or water valve to chrome sink supply line.

Hope that helps.

Using the normal factory spec o-ring should under most circumstances work fine. I had a problem with the flat plate that attached to the trans and needed a biut more than the o-ring by itself.
