85 300SD Small repair questions

OK, I did it,
Bought a 85 300SD, Maroon. Here are a few small issues that I would like to start addressing on this.

the antena does not go up and down. Is this the same as the one for the 82 that is talked of in the forums with the relay. How do I get to the motor, and where is the relay?

Some of the windows do not work both ways, saw a post about dirt in the switches. How does the consol come apart to access these switches?

Saw the post about the wind deflector springs. Is that all that causes it to go up?

And the last small one is that the LED's in the Becker radio are mostly blown out. Is that a repairable item? Or new radio. Mine is a cassette.

AFAIK the relay is in the fusebox.
Did you unplug the connector from the motor and see if it's getting voltage?
There could be a number of things wrong with the antenna. You can have a stripped gear on the motor. You may also need a new mast.
Check for voltage. If it is getting power take it apart and see if everything is ok in the housing. If you need to replace the mast check here:

Remove ashtray.
Remove 1 screw holding ashtray assembly.
Remove 2 screws on bottom of switch faceplate.

Led's are easy to replace. If you don't want to go through the trouble get a new radio. Buy one with a CD player.

Thanks, But I can not get either of these links to work. I will check into the voltage at the antenna mast and look at getting to the switches.

I'm pretty sure the becker has regular light bulbs in it doesn't it? I don't think there's any LED's.....

Actually, the radio in mine looks like it is LCD after looking closer. Guess it is time for a new radio.

Also the only service maual I can find local is for the W123 or 300CD body, not the 300SD or w126 body.

How good will this manual be to me working on this car?

a new faceplate from Becker is $80 as long as you can furnish your old one.

As far as upgrading it all depends on your preferences. Do you want to keep it stock?

Becker does sell an "aftermarket" unit which is the model BE4602

It is a single cd in dash unit with AUX input capabilities.



Retail is $450 plus the adapter.
