How to pull a seat if the motor's jammed?
The driver's seat on my '82 300SD has two jammed motors, one of which controlls the front-back sliding mechanism. Currently the seat is all the way back, with no means of making it move. The other blown motor is the front -up-down motor.
The manual says to slide the seat forward and back to get at the mounting bolts. I can't manage to get to the rear mounting bolts with the seat all the way back. I also can't find any way to remove the motor while the seat's in the car. Any tips?

You are going to need a thin wall closed end wrench preferably a rachet type if you can get your hands on one. What conclusion brought you to the "jammed motor"? Have you tried some pressure pushing the seat while activating the switch? Have you eliminated the (easier) other possibilities?

also
might be in the switch. spray electrical cleaner in the switch might get it going. i also think jammed motor is unlikely.

I pulled the connector off the cluster of motors at the front of the seat. With a probe and some switch twiddling, I figured out which wire went where. The switch was supplying voltage and working correctly, and none of the motors had an open circuit (which I assume they would if completely blown?).
This was after spending half an hour fishing a plastic soda bottle out that was jammed in the seat track (from previous owner.. not me..). I thought the bottle was the cause of the jam, but even after getting it out I couldn't get the seat to budge.

When you pull those motor covers off it should be evident it that's the problem (worm gears). However, I have to ask - have you tried to work the switch with ignition on and door open?

hehe.. yeah, I remembered that one. The switch works fine, +12 volts every where it should be.

You can take off the cable from the motor and chuck it in a drill - that's how I moved the seats in my SD
